I am not sure if you can tell by the title of this post but I am beyond excited about the season premier of New Girl tonight on FOX at 8pm. If you have not become addicted to this show, it’s time to start! I highly suggest buying Season 1 to catch up on all the hilarity. Zooey Deschanel is the perfect mixture between cute and quirky. Not to mention, her makeup is always a perfect throwback to that classic 60’s era. In honor of the shows premiere and my love of the winged eyeliner look, I am going to give you my tips to achieving that perfect cat eye.
-First and foremost, you need to make sure you have a precise eyeliner or small angled brush. I prefer MAC’s 210 precise eyeliner brush but I sometimes use their 266 small angle brush. The reason your brush is so important is because both of these brushes allow you to either make a thin or thick line. Always remember, you can always add but you can never take away. If your brush is too thick, the liner will not go on correctly and you will have to start over.
-Next, grab your favorite gel liner and dip your brush in to thoroughly coat the bristles. To get rid of gobs and make the application as smooth as possible, I often press the sides of my line brush into the cap of my gel liner.
-Start from the middle of your upper lid and draw a line to your outer corner. I really don’t have a special technique for make a “perfect” line, I have found that my hand just kind of guides itself. Once you reach the outer corner of your eye, let up on the pressure of your brush and give it a little flick upwards. This is how I create the extended line of the cat eye. Don’t freak out if you mess up either. As long as you have some makeup wipes or q-tips with makeup remover handy, you will be able to fix any mistakes.
-Once the flick is complete, go back and fill in your outline. If you want that thick cat eye look, extend your line all the way to the inner corner.
-When I want to make my cat eye pop even more, which let’s be honest is every time, I line the inner rim of my upper lash line with super dark black liner. I sometimes use my gel eyeliner to achieve this but instead of using my small angled brush I use a flat definer brush to really get in between those lashes.
Once you get the hang of it, venture out and try some different colors like purple or cobalt.
Good luck and happy winging!
